These recipes offer a delicious mix of new and old world flavors. From the kitchens of my mother and grandmother in Transylvania to the new fusion mixes from my home kitchen in Canada. I have been inspired by the fickle tastes of my children ( vegetarian, pescatarian or whichever way the wind may blow) and my desire to become healthier without compromising taste. READ BEAN CHILI

1 1/4 lb (500g) ground hamburger
1 large red onion chopped

1 tsp salt
4 tbsp chili powder
3 cloves garlic minced
2 tsp sugar

3 tsp ground cumin

1- 16 oz can tomato sauce
2 cups water

1 cup canned beef (chicken) broth
2 tbsp vinegar

1 1/2 cups canned red kidney beans drained



Saute hamburger and onion until browned. Add salt, chili powder, garlic, sugar, cumin and flour. Slowly stir in tomato sauce, beef (chicken ) broth, water and vinegar. Finally add kidney beans and simmer for 45 minutes. Serve hot in “chili bowls”.
